Kathleen Mackey named new Editor-in-Chief of The Carroll News

On March 28, The Carroll News elected Kathleen Mackey, former Managing Editor, as the new Editor-in-Chief for the 2019/20 school year.

“I am incredibly excited to be taking on this new position,” Mackey said.

Mackey is currently a junior studying Communication on the digital media track with a minor in Professional Writing. She joined the staff her freshman year as a writer for Arts & Life.

“There were a lot of things I was uncertain about as an incoming freshman at Carroll, but I knew I wanted to be a part of The Carroll News,” Mackey shared. “[Former advisor] Bob Noll was one of the first people I met on my first tour here. He was so welcoming and assured me that if I ended up attending this school, there would be a place for me to be involved at the paper. It was so encouraging to hear, and it makes it feel even more special to now be editor-in-chief of the staff.”

Though the position can be demanding, Mackey feels that her prior experience as managing editor has prepared her well to take on these new challenges and responsibilities.

“The Carroll News has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my time at Carroll,” Mackey said. “In the three years I’ve been on staff I’ve learned so much and this experience has really helped me to grow as a writer and as an individual. I’m excited to see what’s ahead for us this coming year.”

Mackey will be working alongside Sophia Maltese, the staff’s new Managing Editor. They each have important goals for The Carroll News and are excited to work as a team to help the staff grow.
