John Carroll Athletics enjoyed multiple wins this past weekend, as five Blue and Gold teams have punched their ticket into the OAC Tournament.
The John Carroll women’s soccer team ended their regular season with a historic 3-0 win against Muskingum on Saturday, Oct. 28. at Don Shula Stadium. The Streaks captured an Ohio Athletic Conference regular season Championship title for the first time since 2013. John Carroll recorded an impressive season as they finished 8-0-1 in conference play with an overall record of 12-1-4. The 2023 season also designates the team’s first time being undefeated in conference play. The Streaks also secure the home field advantage as they will take on the lowest remaining seed in the OAC standings in the Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Additionally, John Carroll Volleyball defeated Muskingum on their own court, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Blue and Gold ended the match in three sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19, in New Concord, OH. The win against the Fighting Muskies allowed the Blue Streaks to secure their spot in the OAC Tournament.
“Our win against Muskingum couldn’t have been more ideal, we came in composed and played together which is all you can really wish for in a team,” started captain Jenn Follmer ‘24 “We knew what we had to do and wanted to make sure we put up a true fight because we didn’t want this season to end.”
“This team is locked in and focused on the end goal of winning an OAC championship and I can’t wait to get after it at ONU,” finished Follmer.
John Carroll concludes their regular season with a record of 16-9 overall, and 5-4 in conference play. The squad will head into the tournament as the No. 5 seed, planning to face the No. 4 seed, Ohio Northern, on Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Ada, OH.
The men’s soccer team also defeated Muskingum on Saturday, Oct. 28 in New Concord. The team finished the match with a 3-0 victory, securing another spot in the OAC Tournament. As for a concluding record for the season, the Streaks went 12-5-1 overall and 6-3 in OAC play.
John Carroll entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed, taking on the No. 5 seed, Capital University. The thrilling quarterfinal match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Blue Streaks on Tuesday, Oct. 31. An overtime feat had fans on the edge of their seats. Now, the Blue and Gold will travel to Westerville for a semifinal game against Otterbein on Thursday, Nov. 2.
The men’s cross country team earned their third straight conference title this past Saturday, Oct. 28. The running squad had an exciting finish as they placed four runners in the top five. The Championship win allows John Carroll to host their regional meet at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, OH, on Nov. 11.
The women’s cross country team collected their fourth consecutive conference championship title on Saturday, Oct.28 at Hillcrest Golf Course in Findlay, OH. The Streaks expect to enter regional play with high standards as they will host along with the men’s team on Nov. 11.
John Carroll Athletics has strong programs and will be looking forward to snagging more playoff titles.
