The John Carroll men’s basketball team secured a victory over Muskingum on Sat., Jan 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
The Blue and Gold defeated the Muskies 89-59, allowing the team to remain undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Streaks are now 12-0 in the OAC and 18-1 overall. The Men’s Basketball team also celebrated Alumni Day, showing past John Carroll players that the program is still alive and dominating.
The matchup opened up with John Carroll scoring a quick 11 points to give themselves a swift lead. Right away, Luke Frazier ‘25 helped JCU secure the lead by scoring nine out of the 11 points. Muskingum found some momentum halfway through the first half, as they went on a 14 point run to put themselves back in the game. Luka Eller ‘24 was quick to shut down the Muskies’ boost, sinking a free throw and possession for JCU.
The first half concluded with a score of 43-26, with John Carroll remaining on top. Frazier and Luke Chicone ‘25 were key players in the first half, Frazier leading the team in points (15), while Chicone had three assists.
Muskingum opened up the second half scoring. Once again, Frazier ceased to end the Muskies’ possession scoring another basket to strengthen’s lead.
It is no secret that Frazier is one of the Blue Streak’s important players. The Mentor, OH native was granted his trading card this week, adding to the list of John Carroll Basketball players also receiving their own, personalized cards.
The Blue and Gold continued to influence the speed of the game for the rest of the second half. Multiple Blue Streaks entered the game and carried on with adding points to the board. Aiden Fitzgerald ‘27 was one of the freshmen who received time on the court, bringing in new and fresh energy for JCU’s offense.
The last few minutes of playing time resulted in the Blue Streaks adding on a full court press to strengthen their defense as time dwindled. Frazier captured the No. One Game Leader position, scoring 34 points and leading the team in rebounds. Henry Raynor ‘25 followed suit on the leaderboard with 10 points.
The Blue Streaks continued the dominant win trend with a crucial home victory against Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, Jan. 31. John Carroll travels to Wilmington for another OAC matchup on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
