One Last Outdoor Adventure!

Aiden Keenan

With the arrival of autumn, some may be feeling nostalgic about fun summer activities — socially-distanced bonfires, hikes and traveling! Upon a review of my 2020 summer, I recalled the beauty of the world around us. Featured this week are some of my summer favorites and early autumnal highlights! As always, send your favorite photos to [email protected] to be featured in a future week!

Near Buffalo, New York, lies a small hiking trail to “The Eternal Flame.” Ending by a waterfall, this hike allows visitors to explore a dried-up riverbed and the remnants of a forgotten waterfall. Behind it lies a natural gas flow that is easily lit on fire with a lighter.

At the end of the hike, one can find a small trickle of water and a flame burning underneath a rock overhang. Burning behind the water, the flame flickers and grows depending on the amount of natural gas available.

Chimney Bluffs State Park Oswego, New York, is a beautiful park right on the shore of Lake Ontario. Nearly 100-feet up, hikers are greeted with this beautiful view of the Great Lake, sailboats and a unique landscape.

Before hiking to the top of Chimney Bluffs, people can walk down the shoreline to enjoy the water while still seeing the Bluffs in the distance.

Though we can reminisce on summer adventures, now is the time for autumnal fun! Becker Farms near Buffalo, New York, features two large apple orchards, a vineyard, corn maze and more.

The leaves are turning on the trees, which means apples are ready to be picked at many orchards! Several apples hang from a tree at Becker Farms.
