Over the last month, the University Heights Police Department (UHPD) has strived to keep the community safe by constantly patrolling busy streets and neighborhoods, as well as issuing tickets and making arrests as necessary. From cases of shoplifting, domestic violence disturbances and even an armed robbery, a variety of challenges were presented to both law enforcement and residents. Here is a list of notable police reports that were published over the last month.

Jan. 18:

At approximately 2:30 a.m., UHPD responded to the BP Gas Station on South Green Road for an armed robbery. According to the clerk, a male wearing a blue winter coat, black jeans, gloves and a medical mask entered the store. The suspect pointed a gun at the clerk, demanding cash from the register. He took $1,047 in cash and left the store in an eastbound direction. Police checked the area with unsuccessful results and alerted surrounding agencies of the incident and the suspect’s description. Police are investigating the situation using video footage and evidence was collected.

Jan. 26:

A University Heights resident came to the police department to report an unknown male stealing her purse after she dropped it outside of CVS East on Cedar Road about one week earlier. A report was taken and an investigation has been initiated.

Jan. 28:

Police went to the Anytime Fitness on South Taylor Road for a fight in progress between a man and woman who have children together. Officers weren’t able to determine a primary physical aggressor on the scene, but a report was filed and will be referred to the Detective Bureau and prosecutor for potential charges. Both parties declined to have further police action.

Jan. 30:

UHPD responded to the 2500 block of Laurelhurst Road for a report of a stolen vehicle. The resident’s white 2023 Nissan Rogue was taken with the keys inside from the driveway sometime overnight. Information was gathered and an investigation is underway.

Fe. 1:

Just after midnight, police received reports of shots being fired at a residence on Baintree Road. Several people mentioned that a male and female were arguing and several gunshots followed. UHPD officers talked with several witnesses, all of whom had similar stories, but they weren’t able to locate the disturbance. An investigation is pending.

Feb. 3:

Police were dispatched to Bushnell Road due to a car crash that impacted a local residence. A 2023 Nissan was seen wedged between two houses after the crash. Since one of the residences suffered heavy damage, the East Side Fire/Rescue Technical Team was at the scene to shore up the structure. The driver was arrested for intoxicated driving, along with several other charges.

Feb. 7:

UHPD was dispatched to Puff “n” Stuff for reports of a shoplifting that occurred a few days before. It was stated that an elderly woman stole $110 worth of merchandise before leaving the premises. An investigation will be conducted.

Feb. 10:

A traffic stop was conducted in the 2500 block of Warrensville Center Road. The driver was found to be impaired and unable to safely operate the vehicle. She was arrested for multiple charges and given a mandatory court date.

Feb. 11:

UHPD and paramedics responded to the 3900 block of Lansdale Road for a report regarding a 90-year-old female resident who passed away sometime overnight. Information was gathered and a report was taken.
