On Sept. 9, 2025, the John Carroll University Athletics, Wellness & Events (AWE) Center was officially opened to the public and dedicated. The 125,000 square-foot complex features a variety of athletic facilities for the JCU community.
The center includes a six-lane, 200-meter indoor track, four courts that can host a variety of sports, batting cages, varsity locker rooms, a Korb Family Wrestling Room and more. Though campus athletic associations will often be in the AWE Center, all students and staff are welcome to use the space recreationally when it is free.
University President Al Miciak said of the facility, “As we dedicate this space, we look forward to the new opportunities it creates for students and to extending John Carroll’s impact and national reach through athletics, wellness and academic excellence.”
Naomi Sigg, vice president of student experience and campus belonging, is also excited to open the versatile space to Blue Streaks. “We’ll be able to have students use it for a lot of different reasons, but also for our community to use it for a lot of different programs,” Sigg shared. She expects the center to host a variety of events, athletic and otherwise. Some examples she gave were campus dances and convocation ceremonies.
Sigg believes the AWE Center “represents the continued momentum that we have on our campus.” Where other institutes are looking for ways to reduce spending, John Carroll is finding ways to utilize its budget for the betterment of the campus.
After three years of construction, the AWE Center is officially open to members of the JCU community.
