A vehicle was stolen from John Carroll University’s campus late Sunday night, according to a security alert issued by the John Carroll University Police Department.
Police said a white Kia Sportage was taken between 10:30 and 10:40 p.m. on Jan. 11 from Auxiliary Drive near Murphy and Sutowski halls. The theft was discovered the following morning.
“There are no further updates at this time, and the investigation is still underway,” JCUPD said in an emailed statement.
No suspects have been identified. Police said the individuals involved may have arrived on campus in a dark gray sedan, though no further description is available.
The incident prompted Security Alert No. 26-01, which was sent to the JCU community on Monday. JCUPD urged students, faculty and staff to report suspicious activity in university parking lots as soon as possible by calling 216-397-1234.
Police also encouraged prompt reporting in cases of missing vehicles. “Report as soon as possible once you are sure the car is missing,” the department said.
According to JCUPD, auto thefts on campus are infrequent. “The last auto theft on campus was in August of last year,” police said, adding that there were no auto thefts reported at Notre Dame College in 2025.
As a preventative measure, JCUPD reminded students that free U-locks are available at the police department office in Room 14 of the Recplex.
The investigation remains active and anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact JCUPD.
