Monday, Jan. 12th was an exciting night for the women’s basketball team after its historic 112-41 win over University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Scoring a program-record 112 points on the Panthers, the Blue Streaks extended their seven-game winning streak to eight and improved to 13-1 on the season. Their 112 points in the 13th win of the season set the program record for Single-Game Points.
Coach Beth Andrews spoke about the historic win for the Blue Streaks. “We really came out and took advantage of our pace and depth on the bench. Pitt Bradford had some injuries that limited their rotations and it allowed us to capitalize.”
Andrews also commented on the importance of the team’s chemistry for this major accomplishment. “The season has been going great, we have six seniors who have built an amazing team culture and the work ethic has also influenced the underclassmen. We go at each other and compete every day and that is why we are in our current position and will continue to get better every day.”
Notable scorers for the historic game include Bella Houlihan ’29 who led the way with 17 points, along with Carmen Heuker ‘26 and Graci Semptimphelter ‘26 who each scored 12. Reese Rhodehamel ’29 also notched 11 points for the win.
While Andrews and the Blue Streaks are excited about their record-breaking season, they still have big goals ahead of them. “Our goal is to put ourselves in a position to win a championship so we have moved on and have our eyes on the next target. We focus and live one game at a time, but with this senior-led team we have goals to be able to cut nets and play in the NCAA tournament,” said Andrews.
The women’s basketball team is currently 15-2 on the season and will be hunting for another win at their next game on January 24th at Wittenberg University.
