Two unlocked cars parked on the west end of campus were entered and had items stolen early Monday morning, prompting a campus-wide alert from the John Carroll University Police Department.
The incidents occurred during the early hours of March 23 near the Miramar Boulevard area, a location commonly used for overnight student parking. According to the alert, there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the vehicles were accessed simply because they were left unlocked.
Police Chief Jeffery Daberko confirmed that two cars were affected. While officials did not release specifics about what was taken, the thefts appear to be isolated and opportunistic.
The alert serves as a reminder for students and staff who leave their vehicles on campus overnight. With many relying on nearby lots for convenience, especially on weekends, failing to secure vehicles can increase the risk of theft.
JCUPD is urging the campus community to lock car doors and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. As warmer weather approaches and more students remain active on campus later into the night, officials say staying mindful of basic safety practices will be key in preventing similar incidents moving forward.
