A widespread power and water outage disrupted campus life late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, leaving multiple residence halls without hot water or electricity.
Students in Pacelli and Bernet halls first reported a loss of hot water late Monday evening, creating immediate inconveniences for residents attempting to complete nightly routines. By Tuesday morning, the situation escalated when power was lost in several dorm buildings at approximately 8:10 a.m.
The outage affected Murphy, Dolan, Dolan Science Center, AWE and Pacelli Hall. The combination of no hot water and no power significantly impacted students preparing for classes and morning activities.
Residence Life staff attributed the outage to severe weather conditions that moved through Northeast Ohio overnight.
“Due to last night’s storms, the campus and our area of Northeast Ohio are experiencing rolling power outages,” Residence Life said in a statement. “The Facilities Office is in touch with the electric company and power should be restored within 1–2 hours. For the morning, if you need to charge your computer or phone, the Student Center currently has full power.”
Power was restored to affected buildings by approximately 9:09 a.m., according to campus updates.
In a follow-up statement, Director of Residence Life Kyle Wolfe said the hot water issue had been addressed by facilities staff.
“It appears that work orders were submitted for hot water in Pacelli and Bernet last night and facilities was also made aware immediately,” Wolfe said. “Facilities was able to resolve the issue and both buildings have water again per facilities. There was also a work order last week for Pacelli Hall, which facilities was able to address by repairing a hot water pump that services Pacelli Hall.”
