Emmys 2022 Fashion Review

Corinne McDevitt, Social Media Editor

Television’s biggest night of the year happened on Sept. 12: Keenan Thompson of “Saturday Night Live” fame hosted the 74th Emmys on NBC. The night brought much excitement and fashion from favorite small screen stars. It was easy to see what is in this season with similar cuts and shades all around. The red carpet delivered sparkles and sleek silhouettes. There were a few celebs who stood out from the crowd with their clothing choices. Unfortunately, there were also those who missed the mark considerably. Here are my three favorite and three least favorite looks.

1. Best: Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried won the coveted award of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her starring role in the series “The Dropout.” She lit up the carpet in a dazzling pink gown by Armani Privé. Her intricate shimmering dress made her look like a mermaid on land. Seyfried wins best dressed in my book with this beautiful sparkly ensemble.

2. Worst: Julia Garner

Julia Garner went home with the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress, for her work in “Ozark.” While her acting proved award winning, her fashion choices left much to be desired. The top and bottom of her Gucci dress features silver florals on classic black. However it is the middle of her dress that is lacking – by lacking, I mean there is a weird off-centered diamond hole. The opening throws off the whole dress and leaves it feeling awkward and random.

3. Best: Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney attended the Emmys for a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Sweeney’s highs were not only in her acting talent but also in her fashion choices. Sweeney stunned in a regal silver and white Oscar de la Renta gown. The dress’s applique shined with a sequined sparkle making the overall appearance beautiful.

4. Worst: Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson was up for her 9th Primetime Emmy Award for her role in “Impeachment: American Crime Story.” The actress clearly deserved her role in the spotlight but she fell short when it came to the red carpet. Paulson wore a clunky Louis Vuitton that featured odd angles and weird shapes. Her top looks more like a rectangular bib that clashes with her pleated layered skirt, both in a sullen navy blue. Overall, the whole outfit just did not work.

5. Best: Hannah Waddingham

Hannah Waddington, of Ted Lasso fame, brought her fashion A-game to this year’s Emmys. Waddington graced the carpet in a gorgeous pale pink Dolce and Gabbana look. This princess-like ball gown hides the fun secret of matching dazzling tennis shoes. The star elevates the quirky dress and sneakers combo into red carpet glory. Waddington wins with this look.

6. Worst: Jasmin Savoy Brown

Jasmin Savoy Brown, a part of the “Yellowjackets” cast, attended the Emmys along with several other of her castmates. Brown’s Christopher Kane dress looked like a failed sewing project or the product of a fabric shortage. So many holes and so little style.

At the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my eyes were certainly met with a lot of glorious fashion at the 2022 Emmy Awards. Images of these and other red carpet looks are available online.
