Senior Felice Ferrante celebrates a victory in her final meet at the Johnson Natatorium.

Senior day for the John Carroll University swimming and diving team could not have been sweeter.

The Blue Streaks dipped into the victory pool with 209-87 (men) and 191-99 (women) victories over the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets in the final race of the season at the Johnson Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 19.

JCU has not lost an Ohio Athletic Conference meet since Halloween of 2015 against Ohio Northern (women) and Nov. 11 of 2017 (men), also against ONU.

Perhaps the most impressive result of the day came from senior Eric Andrews, who won his first race as a Blue Streak in the 1000 yard freestyle race with a time of 11:05.14.

Among other senior victories, Jackson Cooper won the 100-yard backstroke (55.12 seconds). The men improved to 6-0 on the year with the win.

On the women’s side, senior Shelbi Shearer won the 50 yard freestyle (26.25 seconds). Fellow senior Maddie Dolce was victorious in the 100 yard individual medley (1:05.90). Lastly, Felice Ferrante capped off the seniors’ stellar day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.48).

Following the race, junior Gwyn Ledrick recorded her seventh career OAC Swimmer of the Week accolade and her third of the season. Ledrick has recorded a first place finish in every meet this season, including her first attempt ever in the 200 yard freestyle.

The JCU women are 4-1 on the year. They have won their last two meets by a combined 145 points. Their only loss of the season came against the No. 18 team in Division III, Case Western.

Both the Blue Streak men and women will visit Ashland for a non-conference meet on Friday, Jan. 24.

In just three weeks, both teams will defend their OAC Championships at the University of Akron. It is a three-day meet that begins on Feb. 13 and ends Feb. 15.
