The wins keep piling up. And for the John Carroll University women’s basketball team, that is music to their ears.

For the second time this season, the Blue Streaks beat an Ohio Athletic Conference team by 26 points, that team being the Muskingum Fighting Muskies in New Concord, Ohio, on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Over the last five games, the Blue and Gold have been on a tear. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, they had their most impressive win, a 59-53 defeat of the No. 11 Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets. The Blue Streaks rallied from being down 10 points in the third quarter and came out victorious with a 29-point fourth quarter.

Last Saturday’s win over the Fighting Muskies marked five consecutive wins for JCU, including winning 20 of their last 22 in conference play.

Although the Blue Streaks came away from Muskingum with a big victory, it did not come easily — especially at the start. The Fighting Muskies fought off the Blue and Gold in the opening quarter, tying it at 15. However, their fight was not sustained.

In the second quarter, the Blue Streaks sparked a nine-point run and, as a result, Muskingum was left to play from behind for the rest of the game.

John Carroll outscored their opponent 24-12 in the second stanza, led mostly in scoring by junior Nicole Heffington’s six points and sophomore Olivia Nagy’s seven points. Nagy owned the boards in the second quarter, with seven rebounds as well.

Junior Dani Carlson carried the Blue and Gold with 10 points and Heffington supplemented with nine. The Blue Streaks put a bow on the win by outscoring the Fighting Muskies 34-20.

Both Heffington and Carlson finished the game in double-digit figures. Nagy added a dozen points and 15 rebounds. Over the course of the 2019-20 season, Nagy has accumulated nine double-double performances. Junior Abby Adler contributed with a career-high 11 rebounds, finishing two points shy of registering a double-double.

The Blue Streaks bench dominated Muskingum, outscoring the home team 23-4. JCU improved to 12-5 on the season.
