Men’s lacrosse team scores season-high 16 goals against Alma

The John Carroll University men’s lacrosse team finished off a brief Michigan road trip with a 16-11 win over the Alma College Scots on March 16.

The Blue Streaks bounced back quickly from a 1-0 deficit, going on a 9-0 run and never looking back. JCU would respond with a 9-0 run to lead 12-4 at halftime.

The Blue and Gold balanced their scoring effectively, as sophomore Logan Collins, junior Skyler Blake and senior Patrick O’Grady each scored  two goals in the first half, while sophomores Kevin Hack, Brendan Whitty and Jared Gorenflo added goals themselves in the first half as well. For Gorenflo, his goal would mark his first of the season.

Seven Blue Streaks would get on the scoreboard in the first half. JCU outscored the Scots 3-2 in the third quarter.

By the start of the final quarter the game had already been decided. The Blue Streaks won the face-off battle 22-9 and outshot the Scots 57-43.

Blake led the way with his third hat trick of the season, scoring four goals overall on the day for JCU. He also added four assists.

Whitty notched three goals and four assists, while Collins and Hack added two goals each.

Sophomore Clayton Karam recorded a team-high in both ground balls and caused turnover.  

In goal, Jacob Betz recorded 13 saves and earned the win for the Blue Streaks, increasing his record to 4-2.  

On the stat sheet, the Blue and Gold won the turnover battle 19-16 and won ground balls 42-24 in the win.  

The Blue and Gold improved to 4-2 overall on the year. JCU will start conference play against Muskingum on Saturday, March 23, on the road in New Concord, Ohio.
