Blue Streaks Compete Tough In April Fools Invitational

John Carroll’s Men’s track and field team traveled to Otterbein to participate in the April Fools Invitational last weekend. The Blue Streaks took third out of 17 teams, following only first place Otterbein and second place Case Western.  

The Blue and Gold had two winners at Otterbein. Freshman Garrett Clark won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.90 seconds. Clark also ran a 22.94 second time in the 200-meter dash and took fifth place. Teammate and senior John Iannetta won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.65 seconds; He also rounded out the top 10 in the 200-meter, with a 23.36 second mark, which placed him 10th

Other amazing performances came from the 800-meter run. Sophomore Mike Shipman took second with a time of 1:58.43 seconds, just over one second behind the leader. Senior Kyle Monahan came in right behind Shipman at 1:58.60 seconds. Senior Zack Modzelewski took eighth.

The throwers also produced some great performances with senior Nick Colby taking second in the hammer throw with a distance of 57.49 meters. He nearly broke his own school record of 57.68 meters. Fellow Blue Streak J.J. Bost took sixth in both the hammer throw and shot put. Junior Nick Vuono took eleventh in both the hammer throw and the shot put as well.   

Other top 10 performances included Salmman Ahmed in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.96 meters, which placed him ninth. JCU had two top 10 finishers in the triple jump. Anton Peregoncev took third jumping 12.54 meters. Peregoncev was less than half a meter away from taking first. Chris Wardlow took seventh jumping 11.89 meters.

The men’s track and field team will head to The College of William and Mary this Thursday, April 4 through Saturday, April 6 for the Colonial Relays. That competition will take place in Virginia.
