John Carroll Swim and Dive celebrates commanding sweep over Baldwin Wallace on Senior Day

Seniors of the John Carroll University Swimming and Diving program celebrating their victory on senior day against Baldwin Wallace University

The John Carroll University Blue Streaks Swimming and Diving Team faced off against Baldwin Wallace University this past Saturday at Johnson Natatorium. 

 

In addition to the competition this past weekend, John Carroll’s 12 seniors were celebrated as they competed for their last time in their home pool.  

 

The Blue Streaks came out on top against the Yellow Jackets. The women’s side defeated Baldwin Wallace185 to 108 and the men’s conquered a victory as well, winning 219-74.

“Saturday’s victory was a true testament to the depth we have in our program,” said John Carroll Swim and Dive Head Coach Tanner Barton. 

 

The Blue Streaks started out their victory with wins from the medley relays on both the women’s and men’s sides. 

 

Graduate student Spenser Kale, Ashley Lynch ‘23, Rachel Halapchuk ‘23, and Anna Glass ‘24 touched in at first with a time of 1:56.35.

 

 For the men, Liam McDonnell ‘23, Jonah Venos ‘23, Bryce Liddell ‘25, and Michael Heller ‘23 finished with a time of 1:54.25.

 

The high energy continued throughout the whole meet as the men’s 50 freestyle took a one-two-three sweep with Liddell taking first at a time of 21.87 seconds, Forrest Campbell ‘22 coming in at second with a time of 22.14 seconds and Austin Davis ‘24 just behind him with a time of 22.38 seconds.

 

Isabella Genise ‘24 received her first collegiate win on Saturday in the 200 fly with a time of 2:37.36, followed by her two teammates, Glass and Halapchuck, who took second and third place, respectively.

 

John Carroll rolled in a second, third and fourth place finish for the men’s 1-meter diving. All three men were seniors, Jack Lausin ‘22 making a huge comeback this season scoring 281.62 points for his senior meet, Christian Litwinowicz ‘22 in second with 196.62, and Forrest Campbell ‘22, trying diving for his first time, in fourth with a score of 126.67.

In addition to the number of victories seen at the Johnson Natatorium on Saturday, 12 seniors competed for their last time at their home pool. 

 

Before the start of the meet, the 12 seniors gathered after being honored to watch an emotional video that encompassed pictures from throughout their whole life. 

 

“I’m extremely proud of our seniors,” said Barton. “I look forward to seeing how well they do in these final weeks.”

The Blue and Gold Swimming and Diving team will travel to Wilmington College on  Saturday, Jan. 29 for their final dual meet of the 2021-2022 season.
