Rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns Shedeur Sanders made his NFL debut on Sunday, Nov. 16 against the Baltimore Ravens at Huntington Bank Stadium. Fans highly anticipated his first appearance, as Sanders made quite a name for himself prior to signing with the Browns. Sanders, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and former quarterback of the Colorado State Rams, dominated college ball while also launching his musical career. Following in his father’s footsteps, who also had a brief stint as a musician, Sanders released his single “Perfect Timing” in 2024, gaining lots of media attention.
What was supposed to be “perfect timing” for the young athlete’s debut quickly went downhill as his rocky first appearance was followed by a home robbery. In Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, Sanders completed 4 of 16 passes, threw an interception and was sacked twice. The Browns, who were ahead for most of the game, fell to the Ravens after losing their momentum over a controversial touchback call.
While Sanders was busy entertaining the 64,230 fans in attendance, a couple of thieves had a different plan for their Sunday evening. The burglars stole about $200,000 worth of goods including clothes, sunglasses and hats while wearing masks and gloves. The three thieves worked quickly, leaving Sanders’s residence in just 12 minutes.
Although no arrests have been made, this is not the first robbery of a professional athlete recently. Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow’s house was robbed in December, while Cleveland Heights native Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, was also burglarized. Captain Eric Bors of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office believes the crimes could possibly be related. According to Bors, “There does seem to be some type of possible tie to this… We have been in contact with those agencies for those jurisdictions where they’ve had burglaries and thefts as well. So, we are working with them hand in hand to try to get some leads.”
Sanders and the Cleveland Browns are already bouncing back from this sequence of unfortunate events. On Nov. 23, the Cleveland Browns beat the Las Vegas Raiders 24-10, making Sanders’ first NFL start a victory.
