Each week, The Carroll News sports section names five Blue Streak athletes “Streaks of the Week.” Congratulations to this week’s athletes on their outstanding performances.
Women’s Basketball: Junior, Olivia Nagy
Nagy had a performance on Saturday, March 6, that will forever live in John Carroll sports lore. The 6’2″ junior recorded a triple-double (22 points, 13 rebounds, 10 blocks) to help cement the Women’s Basketball Team’s second Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament title in three years.
Men’s Lacrosse: Senior, Brendan Whitty
Despite the loss to crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace, Whitty deserves recognition for his valiant effort. The senior recorded two goals and had five assists, adding to his team-leading 16 points on the season.
Women’s Lacrosse: Junior, Alex Heishman
Heishman has been a key cog in the Blue Streaks’ 4-0 start to the season. Last Wednesday, March 3, against Baldwin Wallace, the junior tallied three goals and two assists. Then on Saturday, March 7, the 2019 OAC Rookie of the Year scored four goals in the 10-goal victory over Otterbein.
Men’s Track and Field: Senior, Jamie Dailey
After winning his first career race on Feb. 27, at Mount Union, Dailey set a new personal record in the 5000-meter with a second-place finish at the OAC Championships last Saturday, March 6, with a time of 14:53.62. The senior also ran fourth in the 3000-meter race.
Women’s Track and Field: Senior, Courtney Phoennik
Phoennik had a performance to remember last Friday, March 5, to cap her Indoor Track career. At the OAC Championships, the senior won the 500-meter race and the triple jump. The former All-Region honoree also finished third in the high jump, setting a new personal record with a height of 1.58 meters.
