On Monday, April 4, NCAA Division III institutions across the country kicked off Division III Week 2022 to honor the impact that DIII athletics has on college campuses.

According to the NCAA, Division III is a week-long celebration to honor and observe the impact of athletics and student-athletes on campus and in the community.

At John Carroll University, members of the John Carroll Student Athlete Advisory Committee worked hard to plan a week’s worth of activities for everyone on the campus to get involved in.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate D3 Week, honoring our amazing student-athletes here at John Carroll,” said JCU SAAC Advisor Joe Ginley ‘16. “JCU SAAC has plenty planned for this week, teaming up with the Carroll Crazies, Morgan’s Message and other organizations on campus.”

The week began with a yoga event in the DeCarlo varsity gym on Monday night.

There are still many opportunities for those who want to get involved with Division III Week at John Carroll.

Morgan’s Message is hosting an event at the John Carroll Women’s Lacrosse game on Wednesday evening at Don Shula Stadium. Students at John Carroll can learn how to end the stigma surrounding mental health and athletes while enjoying s’mores and gear from Morgan’s Message prior to the 7 p.m. game.

On Thursday afternoon, students can enjoy cookies from SAAC between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Lombardo Student Center Atrium.

Towards the end of the week, members of John Carroll Athletics will give back to the greater community.

On Friday, April 8, Blue Streaks will give back to the community as they participate in the Labre to help feed the homeless and offer them friendship.

The Blue & Gold Men’s Soccer team will host a scrimmage to raise money for a blood cancer research grant in honor of John Carroll’s former Sports Information Director, Chris Wenzler ‘90.

The Blue & Gold scrimmage begins at 8 p.m. at Don Shula Stadium. To donate, Venmo: @Wenzlers-Warriors.

On Saturday, the week will conclude with the Streaks supporting Streaks event, when the John Carroll Baseball team takes on Ohio Northern University at home in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest.

“We’re blessed to have wonderful student-athletes at JCU,” said Ginley. “I’m excited for us to celebrate their hard work on and off the field.”
